Ram 1500 Rev Electric Pickup Delayed to 2026, Focus Shifts to Ramcharger
Share
Ram brand owner Stellantis has announced a delay in the much-anticipated all-electric Ram 1500 Rev pickup truck, changing the launch timeline from the first half of 2025 to 2026. This shift in focus is a result of prioritizing the gas-extended hybrid model, the Ramcharger, which is also facing a delay from its initial launch target in the first half of 2025.
Reasons for Delay
Stellantis stated that the decision to launch the Ramcharger first is primarily driven by "overwhelming consumer interest" and a noticeable slowdown in demand for heavy all-electric models. This change comes on the heels of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares stepping down after the company experienced a significant decline in sales, alongside criticism regarding the degradation of its US brands and the lack of affordable models in the market.
Platform Specifications
Both the Ramcharger and the Ram 1500 Rev will be constructed on Stellantis’ STLA Frame platform, which is engineered to accommodate a variety of powertrains including electric, gas, hybrid, and hydrogen options. The STLA Frame not only supports evolutionary design but also enhances the Ramcharger’s range, allowing the gas-extended EV to achieve up to 690 miles with a full charge and tank combined.
Federal Support for EV Batteries
In a strategic move to bolster its electric vehicle production, Stellantis and its battery partner, Samsung SDI, have successfully secured a federal loan from the Biden administration. This funding aims to support the domestic manufacturing of electric vehicle batteries, propelling Stellantis into a more competitive position within the growing EV market.
Impact on Consumers and Market
The delays in these key models signal a shift in Stellantis’ approach as it navigates current market conditions and consumer preferences. As manufacturers invest heavily in transitioning their fleets to electric, the focus on hybrid solutions might offer a bridge for traditional truck buyers who are not yet ready to fully commit to electric vehicles.
Conclusion
As the automotive landscape continues to evolve, Stellantis is adapting its strategy to align with consumer desires and market demands. The upcoming releases of the Ramcharger and Ram 1500 Rev will undoubtedly shape the future of the brand as it embraces innovation and new technologies.
