As reported by Android Authority, the Car Ready Mobile Apps Program provides comprehensive guidance for modifying apps, enabling their availability in automotive environments featuring the Google Play Store. Initially, Google is prioritizing applications related to streaming entertainment, gaming, and web browsing. Notably, compatibility with x86 processors is required, as many automotive systems do not utilize Arm chips.
Compatibility Mode Option for Wider App Support
To further facilitate integration, Google is implementing a compatibility mode that allows several apps to function seamlessly within the Android Automotive framework, even if they don't meet all the new guidelines. This initiative was initially announced at I/O 2024, where Google aimed to streamline the app approval process specific to in-car applications.
