GM and EVgo Reach Milestone with 2,000 EV Charging Stalls in California

General Motors and EVgo Celebrate Milestone in EV Charging Infrastructure

General Motors (GM) and EVgo have made significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) charging ecosystem by installing their 2,000th public charging stall in Murrieta, California. This achievement aligns with GM's goal set in September, aiming to deploy the majority of its planned 2,850 DC fast-charging stalls by the end of this year.

Details of the New Charging Station

The newly inaugurated station is strategically located near Interstate 215 in Riverside County and features five 350kW fast chargers, enabling charging for up to ten EVs simultaneously. However, GM has not clarified whether these chargers adhere strictly to the CCS standard or if they also accommodate Tesla’s NACS ports, which have gained traction over the last year and a half. The company has been approached for further insights.

Expanding Charging Accessibility across the U.S.

Dennis Kish, the president of EVgo, highlighted the importance of the partnership with GM, stating that it has facilitated public charging solutions for communities in over 30 states across the U.S. Moreover, EVgo is poised to deploy its "first flagship destinations" in the coming year, enhancing the EV charging network further.

Future Developments in Charging Infrastructure

GM's charging network development doesn't stop at the recent installations. Earlier in September, GM announced plans for an additional network comprising 2,000 more DC fast chargers at Flying J and Pilot truck stops. This ambitious project will include 400 flagship charging locations, strategically positioned in major metropolitan areas across states such as Florida, California, Texas, and Michigan.

Collaborations for a Sustainable Future

In addition to their collaboration with EVgo, GM is also a part of the Ionna consortium. This network brings together various car manufacturers like Hyundai, Kia, BMW, and Stellantis, all working towards enhancing electric vehicle infrastructure across the country.

Conclusion

With the rapid expansion of charging networks, GM continues to lead in the EV market, providing essential support for EV owners and contributing to a sustainable, eco-friendly future.
