Eve Systems Launches First Android App for Smart Home Innovation
Eve Systems has taken a significant leap in the smart home market by launching its inaugural Android app, called Eve for Matter, on the Google Play Store. This development comes more than two years after the initial announcement of the app. With this release, Android users can finally access tailored features for their Eve devices, which were previously restricted to iOS users.
Features of the Eve App
Currently, the app is compatible with Google Home and supports only one device, the new Eve Thermo smart radiator valve, which is priced at 79.99 Euros. This thermostat is designed specifically for European homes and incorporates Matter-over-Thread technology. While older versions of the Eve Thermo can be upgraded to support Matter and Thread, this latest model comes fully equipped.
Future Expansion and Product Support
Lars Felber, Eve Systems' PR director, revealed that the primary goal is to gradually extend the app's compatibility to more devices and platforms. The app has been launched ahead of the heating season to cater to Eve Thermo customers using Android and Google Home. Felber emphasized the intention to evolve the app into a comprehensive tool.
Smart Home Classifications and Concerns
The absence of an Android app prior was due to Eve's robust commitment to privacy, opting against cloud connectivity and mandatory user accounts, thus focusing on Apple Home. However, the introduction of the Matter smart home standard enables Eve to branch out while adhering to its foundational principles.
Current Device Capabilities and Apple Home User Advantages
While Android users can already integrate other Matter devices like the Eve Energy smart plug and Eve Motion blinds with platforms like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, and Samsung SmartThings, they are currently limited in functionality. Apple Home users, however, enjoy full access to Eve’s full suite of innovative features, including detailed energy usage reports for smart plugs and advanced shading options for smart shades through the Eve for Matter & HomeKit iOS app.
Building on Google Home APIs
As the app is exclusively integrated with Google Home, it operates using the Google Home APIs launched earlier this year, significantly speeding up the Android development process according to Eve CEO Jerome Gackel. Support for additional platforms like Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings is promised in future updates.

Matter represents a breakthrough in smart home technology, functioning as an interoperability standard that allows diverse devices to communicate seamlessly without relying on cloud services. It enables secure and private local control over smart home devices, ensuring easy setup and widespread compatibility.
Smart Home Compatibility and Multi-Admin Feature
Brands like Apple, Amazon, Google, and Samsung have collaborated to create an open-source, IP-based connectivity protocol named Matter. This standard works with numerous home devices ranging from lighting and thermostats to more complex setups such as smoke alarms and EV chargers.
Matter-enabled gadgets can be easily set up within any Matter-compatible ecosystem, controlled locally through a Matter controller, and enjoyed on a multi-admin level across various platforms, enhancing user experience.
