Apple Maps Web Beta Now Includes Look Around Feature
After the successful beta launch of Apple Maps on the web in July, Apple has recently enhanced its offerings by adding the Look Around street-level views for numerous cities, as reported by 9to5Mac.
Activating Look Around
Users can easily activate Look Around by selecting the binoculars icon located at the bottom left corner of the map window. This allows for an immersive first-person experience, enabling users to click and drag on the map to explore various perspectives in many large cities.
Features and Functionality
During its launch, the Apple Maps web beta offered basic functionalities such as:
- Searching for points of interest
- Viewing ratings and reviews
- Exploring area Guides
- Getting directions
With the addition of Look Around, the web version of Apple Maps is getting closer to the comprehensive functionality found in the Apple Maps app across iOS, iPadOS, and macOS platforms. However, it's worth noting that certain personalization features, like searching addresses from contacts or saving locations to your Library, are still unavailable.
Personal Experience with Look Around
As an avid user of Apple Maps on my Mac, I find that Apple’s Look Around feature often provides a smoother experience compared to Google’s Street View. However, I occasionally have to revert to Google Maps because Look Around is not supported in my hometown of Baltimore, MD, despite having seen an Apple Maps van in the city back in 2017.
